Environmental ethics is the conceptual foundations of environmental values as well as more concrete issues surrounding societal attitudes, actions, and policies to protect and sustain biodiversity and ecological systems.
The five principles of sustainable development are as follows:
- Conservation of the ecosystem or the environment.
- Conservation of biodiversity of the planet.
- Sustainable development of the society.
- Conservation of human resources.
- Population management.
At TBE we implement pragmatic strategies to progressively move towards net zero, enhance biodiversity and create sustainable soil, water and marine environments. The principles are embodied in the following strategies:
- Siting to avoid and minimise adverse impacts
- Conserving high biodiversity value lands
- Provide opportunities for community and the environment to interact positively
- Are energy efficient by reducing energy use and
- Are water efficient and achieve a no net change in catchment flows
- Create habitat and value landscaping that works for people and wildlife
- Aim for a no net loss in biodiversity by using restoration, offsetting and habitat creation
- Minimise and utilise waste streams
- Protect streams and are pragmatic in achieving high quality catchment outcomes
- Value our indigenous and worldwide heritage, connection to land and ancestors
- Value green streets and landscapes
- Look for innovative architectural designs that allow for plant and animal life to coexist in the places we live
- Value sustainable food production and delivering for our communities
- Develop solutions to climate change
- Seek to protect communities from fires, floods and storms and create resilient ways of living
Moving towards sustainable solutions
The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it. It’s a no-brainer that investing in carbon neutrality and sustainable practices is not only important from a business cost perspective but because we owe it to our planet and future generations.
At TBE we have developed an internal strategy to move us towards a sustainable future.
Strategy 1 – Our decisions determine the outcome so we look at the ways of making decisions to minimise our impacts
Strategy 2 – To reduce our energy consumption but adapting to the climate
Strategy 3 – To transition vehicles to renewable energy sources and reduce the life cycle energy consumption
Strategy 4 – In house Sustainability Superheroes to minimise and recycle out waste
Strategy 5 – Remote area inspections by UAV, drones and Remote camera technology to maximises our effectiveness
Strategy 6 – Zooming to minimise energy consumption in the movement of our people
Strategy 7 – To seek suppliers that embody sustainability in their operations
Strategy 8 – To create habitat on land and sequester our C02 outputs through carbon sequestration
Strategy 9 – To assist in the design of projects that have sustainable credentials
Strategy 10 – To develop innovative solutions and support sustainability of the economy, employment, enterprise and safe communities in the face of climate change
